Diann and I are so excited about our upcoming Columbus rally. We've been busy at work networking, preparing invites, and making travel arrangements. We've got our hotel room reserved for the nights of the 20th and 21st. I've made flight arrangements and Diann is driving from VA. We've of course made contact with the Columbus police department and with the Franklin Co. Courthouse staff. This rally is going to rock!

I just sent out the very last of our 140+ invites to local agencies, advocates, and students. The RSVP''s have started coming in. By the end of this week we should have a good estimate on the number of attendees to expect. Diann and I are now finishing up our press release to send out to all local news media outlets ASAP. Then we'll be spending the remainder of this week and next week networking via phone calls, emails, facebook, twitter.

Over the weekend I finished sending out last minute invites and the press releases have also be sent. The RSVP's have continued to come in. Now that we've gotten the organizations involved we're now able to focus fulltime on the most important aspect of this event: Getting the word out to as many local survivors as humanly possible. This event is for them after all. Tomorrow morning it's all about calling local agencies who work with survivors so they can help us get the word out to them.

Planning for Saturday has been exciting!
Just a few short months ago while thinking about my past abuse, it occured to me. What didn't happen?
When abuse issues are swept under the rug, (in many fashions) a piece of you lies dormant with that rug. Until the abuse is acknowledged a victim doesn't heal. Often times a victim of abuse cries out for help (in many forms and fashions) and their abuse issues are 'swept under the rug'.
Moments later, it came to me: "Don't Sweep It * Speak It".
When learning Joanna would be in Ohio in May, we put our heads together and decided to organize an event in Columbus! What would we call it? Joanna suggested to use my new logo. The planning began.
For the past three years, any event or committee Joanna and I have been a part of, has been to benefit survivors of abuse; to provide resources & support. With any luck, Don't Sweep It * Speak It will show any survivor of abuse if you talk to someone and they can't help you, speak to someone else. Not everyone knows what to do when a victim of abuse speaks to them. But, there is always help when you are ready in your community.
I am looking forward to not only seeing Joanna again on Saturday, but also providing the Franklin County Ohio community, resources and providing another opportunity for Survivors to Speak It!
